It is hard to find the exact date when Morag was established. Historians are open to situate the fact at the end of XIIIth century. FOTO-EWA

Installation of origin of name of the town also brings problems. The most commonly met hypothesis is that it comes from Prussian name of lake: Mawrin, Maurin or Morin.

And it is so hard to find out because in time of stormy history of the town, there has not been saved (any) location privilege.

So it is not possible to establish unquestionably in what year Morag had received city rights. Historians assume that it has happened in the year 1327.

Nearly seven centuries in Morag history is a thread of battle about political influences,wars and acts of God.
In year 1414, in time of war between Teutonic Order and Poles the town has been incinerated completely. Morag had experienced a similar disaster in 1697.Wooden buildings covered with thatch had burnt several more times.Morag has not been bypassed by pestilence in 1427 and epidemic of plagueat the beginning of XVIIth century.Wars of Poles with Teutonic Order and Sweden, and also Napoleonic campaign in time of which citizens of Morag proceeded for several days from hands to hands of three armies: French, Russian and Prussian and moreover destroying warfare in 1945 fulfill dramatic cards of town history. The history may be implemented with some more fact like: great pour jointed with hailstorm (1577), earthquake (1818), often hurricanes and snow - storms.Certainly such number of events may scare but Morag against of all odds,regenerated each time as Phoenix from ashes.What is more, many citizens born in Morag brought fame and glamour to town.
  
Let us mention at least a few of them: - Mayor Marcin Gotschalk signed in 1446 Morag accession to Prussian Alliance. - Townsman Salomon on behalf of citizens of Morag read the text of oathon loyalty to king Kazimierz Jagiellonczyk in 1454. - In XVIIth and XVIIIth century Obuch family lived in Morag,the family which was the one of great importance.Several of fine craftsmen and artists come from the family.Fine organs in many churches (also the one in Morag) were made by them.One of the Obuchs was a famous missionary in Indochina in XVIIIth century.Another, who had been an architect, was made a supervisor of reconstructionof Teutonic Order castle in Malbork at the beginning of XIXth century. - Abraham Calovius (1612 - 1686) - prominent theologian, professor of University of Wittenberg. - Jan Gottlieb Willamowius (1736 - 1777) - poet, humanist.

Johann Gottfried Herder (1744 - 1803) - [probably the most famous citizen of Morag]writer, philosopher, representative of social, philosophical and literary thought of Enlightment. - Karol Rautenberg - had opened the first bookshop in Morag. - Karol Harich - ancestor of a well known family of publishers and writers.He founded the first printing house in Morag in 1832.
 In the Middle Ages Morag was on shipping commerce lane connecting Truso(later Elblag) with harbors at Black Sea.In 1725 it was emphasized that: "The town is very vital owning the Polish national route..."The basis of Morag inhabitants’ maitenance was at that time - agriculture and commerce(selling cereal, horses, cattle, fish, timber and cloth). Since 1813 Morag was a seat of district authorities.Town authorities - since 1809: Town Council consisting of 16 - 18 aldermen and Town Board (Mayor, his assistant and six members of town municipality).XX century brought Morag gas - works (1904), modern installation of water-supply (1907), sewage system (1913 - 1916), and electricity (1923).
